India: The Blue City of Jodhpur, Rajasthan

Colors of the city of Jodhpur are still dancing in my head.

View of the city from the fort

Blue and Orange,Tangerine and Gold.

Blue and scarlet? Rust?

Oh.. that orange again!

Look at his pants!

I just noticed this kid's pants.. and the pots in the courtyard.

This is way too much fun!

This guy poured his soul out as he sung few folk songs for us. His voice still rings in my ears and I am getting goose bumps just thinking about that moment.

After all the inspirations there is only one thing left to do. I have to stitch all of these memories into a quilt.

This antique quilt was too hard to resist and these colors were just right.

Cut a few squares and then into triangles.

On the design wall..

This is going to be fun! Visit here for a tutorial if you would like to make one too.

  5. Great photos! I went to India a couple of years ago for a wedding. I would love to go again.
Have you seen log cabin quilts that look like that second photo?
Found it. It's called A New Look at Log Cabin by Flavin Glover.
I will look for my little quilt and maybe post it linked to yours?

  6. It's just after 11pm, and after seeing your photos of the Blue city of Jodhpur and seeing the start of your Toran quilt and tutorial, I don't think sleep is going to come quickly! My mind is already asking, Why is the city blue? and What colours would I use, if I was to start the Toran quilt?

  10. When I saw the photo I knew you would design a quilt!!!! Your eye for color is beautiful magic.....thank you for using your gift to share with others!!! Happy colors!! And I was just thinking what a wonderful way to remember a special place maybe where you have lived....I may doodle and watercolor the memory of elements and their colors where I lived as a child .... if I can remember them! It was a small countryside farm .... maybe all the faces made brown and textured by working on the farm in the sun, the color of the earth was rusty brown, the weathered house was grey wood, the cows were black and white and when Spring came the blue cornflowers against the fresh new grass that we wove into crowns to wear all day..... sometimes we need those memories when life is changing so fast!! Hmmm Thanks for the excersize!!

  13. That photo blows me away! Is there a story about why that particular city favors all the blue on their buildings? It reminds me of New Mexico. That blue has been used for ages for doors and window frames in an effort to keep out evil spirits.

  15. This is too much for me to bear - that orange, those blues! After our major snow storm here this weekend, these colors and your quilt are just what I need - more, more more! And I'm working with triangles this morning and I need a little refresher course - thanks for the 'pointers'. Take care, Byrd

    1. Hi Byrd,
I know what you mean. This recent storm was something else. I have noticed that for some strange reason I turn to blues during these cold wintery days. Orange is an obvious spark to it. Glad you found the tutorial helpful.I will be posting more tips as I go. Enjoy working on your triangles.

  28. Okay, so I'm late to the party (as usual) but I, too, am in love with your pictures of India and the quilt that's coming from them. Do you know why so much of the city is blue? And thank you for the pictures of the ringneck parakeets in their natural environment. A very long time ago I had one as a pet, they have a special place in my heart. I'm sure I would love India - for the same reasons I would love Mexico: the color!
